In a recent article, I got into the law that states that if you want things to be better you must be better. This is Brian’s first law of the sucess in the 21st century.

The second law is a continuation of that concept and states simply that where you were is meaningless; where you are going is what matters. This is easily the hardest one for people to master.

People who are stuck in the past dwelling on damaging events or failures are never going to be able to properly excite their efforts going forward. There is a saying that no thought lives in your head rent free. When you aren’t thinking of where you are headed and alternatively are thinking of yesterdays problems, tomorrow will never fully flower. The cycle of disappointment is renewed because the tomorrow that becomes your today is never satisfactory. It falls short of your dreams because you didn’t do what winners must: put their whole mind towards their tomorrow.

When I work with my racing clients like Joey Saldana of Sprint Cars and NASCAR’s Kasey Kahne, I make sure that their minds are not distracted with past or present problems or negativity. Granted I have very little to be concerned about. Elite achievers in any field mastered this art of thinking long ago and it is one of the big reasons they live the lives that others fantasize about, but never reach.

When I put together the first of it’s kind home training program for motorcycle and car racers: The Racers Workout, the law of a better tomorrow is primary. If I fail to get my students to see tomorrow, I fail them all together. They must see their dreams and the results they must achieve along with it. The best part about this sort of thinking is that it is fun. It transports you from the small problems dominating your day to a flawless exciting larger than life tomorrow.
